Review by N. Registration "Floora Dora" : Pretty amazing monitor...
This is by far the best monitor I have ever had, that being said i have previously
owned a 23" LED LCD 1080p and a 26" LCD monitor. This monitor by far surpasses the
image quality and design of both those products.
LED Backlighting: My previous LED monitor was just about as good as this one but
the previous monitor had a glass pane over the screen. This monitor however has
a matte finished screen for a no glare experience...
Contrast: Obviously the contrast ratio is not 5M : 1 but it is the best on any
monitor I have ever seen. A little bit of tweaking in the color menu and you
will have life like pictures/video/gaming all on this screen
Boot Speed: Some reviews on here state that the Boot Speed is slow, this is not
the case with mine, it boots up in less than a second after touching the touch
sensitive power button conveniently located on the bottom middle of the bezel....
Design: Most people complain about not having a swivel option... Just turn your
monitor its not that hard.... Others complain about a lack of a height adjustment...
Just sit lower/higher... The tilt adjustment is all I need to have this monitor set
up just the way i want it...
Lack of Inputs: This monitor comes with a DVI and a HDMI input... Which is not a problem
for me because all my devices support those two formats. But to everyone else that has
a component hook up, you are SOL... If you have a VGA connection the monitor comes with a
very useful VGA to DVI cable that works pretty well with my Sony Vaio....
Response Time: My old LED monitor had a terrible response time, and I am an avid gamer so I
need a good response time, well this monitor excels in the response time category, games
are crisp with no blur and the image responds perfectly with every move I make!!!
In Conclusion: This monitor is sexy, lightweight, and has the most amazing picture you
will ever see in a 23 in. PLEASE GO BUY THIS PRODUCT....
What's great about it: LED Backlighting, Contrast, Brightness, Boot Speed, Simplicity...
What's not so great: Buttons on back, Lack of inputs...
Review by Kris Bryant "Playful Artist" : Easier on the eyes, worth the extra price
Okay, I admit it, I'm cheap. I didn't want to spend $300.00 on a monitor this size when I could get another brand with similar specs for almost half the price. But this monitor made me a believer. This monitor is so far about the others in it's class that I feel compelled to write a review. :)
My current monitor broke, so I bought one of these locally (Samsung PX230) just to play with while I ordered a few competitors so I could take them all for a test drive. Although I liked the look of this monitor, I had no intention of keeping it. Well, think again. The other monitors arrived. All LED, all with similar specs, all major trusted name brands. I tried them all for several days each. After trying them all in my home, I decided this one is worth the extra price. In fact, it is well worth it.
There are several things that make this monitor stand out from the crowd, but to me the most important of all is how easy it is on my eyes. I am very sensitive to refresh rate and flicker and such, and I often get headaches and eye strain from being on the computer. That's tough, because I'm on it all day long, 7 days a week. My job is online plus I'm also an avid gamer and I do a lot of photo and video editing. Refresh rate (not response time) was one of the key specs I was looking for because my eyes normally hurt like heck if the refresh rate isn't at least 85. And yes, this is true on LCD's, too, not just the old CRT technology. Anyway, this monitor only lists a 60 hz refresh rate, which I have always found to be too low. That's why I thought it would not work for me. Well, surprise, surprise, it actually was easier on my eyes than the others I tested that had higher refresh rates. I don't know what they did in this technology, but this monitor is by far the best for reducing eye strain that I have ever found. I can stare at it all day without any headaches or eye strain or burning, and for me that says a lot!
Another thing I love about it is that it has 4 separate brightness/contrast modes that are designed specifically for PC, Internet and entertainment applications, and you can switch back and forth between them with the touch of a button. This is fantastic for going back and forth between staring at an excel spreadsheet to photo editing to gaming or watching a movie. Seriously, with the touch of a button you can switch to optimum settings for each new task. This may sound a bit nutty, since you've probably never done this in the past, but trust me, once you've experienced having these options, you'll never go back. I used to hate having to work all day on excel spreadsheets and such. All those close-set black lines on a white background were murder on my eyes after a few hours. But with the correct mode engaged and a little tweaking (which stays adjusted to your liking) looking at a spreadsheet is as restful as looking out the window. Then, when I'm ready to switch to a game or movie, I just toggle the button to the appropriate setting and all the perfect colors and contrast jump out at me again. It's just fabulous! With every other monitor I've had to choose a happy medium with my display settings, which always meant compromise, but with these separate modes, I can easily toggle back and forth so each task is done under the ideal viewing settings. It really does make a difference!
The adjustment buttons are in the back, which seems weird at first, but as soon as you realize which button is under which finger, it's easy and intuitive. You basically just hold your hand in a natural position on the side of the monitor, and wiggle each finger (individually) to work the buttons. The trick is to memorize which control is under which finger, then it's easy.
I also really like the "MagicLux" feature that senses the ambient light and adjusts the monitor accordingly. I have tried this monitor in different locations and lighting conditions and the automatic adjustment really works!
I chose the LED technology because they are easier on the eyes (a top priority), but all the monitors I tested along with this one were LED, too, and some of them seemed the same as LCD to me. With the LED Viewsonic, for example, I really couldn't tell the difference between LED and LCD. With this monitor, however, the LED backlighting along with their other display technology really does deliver a very natural looking light. I live in the woods in a remote area and I'm outdoors a lot, so I know what natural light is supposed to look like. This monitor delivers the most natural looking and comfortable light of any I've tested. It truly is restful on the eyes. :)
If LED technology is important to you for more earth-friendly reasons, like low energy use, low EMF's, and lack of toxic metals like Mercury and lead, you will also be happy to learn that in addition to these things, this particular monitor is also one of the few on the market that is made without paint VOC's. A boon for the planet as well as for those who may be chemically sensitive.
I would highly highly recommend this monitor to anyone, even if it costs a bit more. It is absolutely worth it. And this is coming from a cheapskate. :)
Review by desperatedude : best I've ever had
Figured i would do a quick review for this since it doesn't have too many yet.
There are a lot of options for monitors but this fit my budget and had the LED back-light. The blacks are dark and the viewing angles are good. I don't really have any complaints about the picture quality, it is truly magnificent. I do wish it had more output capability and a forward tilt feature. You will get a cleaning cloth in the box, use "distilled" water with it and it will dry without streaks and will be clean. I think this is a great monitor for the price and will probably be buying a second for a dual display.
Review by RPJ : Excellent Monitor - Very Happy
The PX2370 really doesn't need another positive review, just thought I would add mine because I had purchased 2 new Dell UltraSharp U2211H monitors, and replaced them with the PX2370. At Dell's website they advertise the U2211H monitor as being 20.25" x 7.25 " x 13.69" WDH. I have owned Dell UltraSharps and know they are good monitors, and based on the dimensions of this monitor, thought it would be good replacement for my 19" Dell UltraSharps. Well, when I received the monitors (I use dual monitors), I found the monitors were only 12 inches tall, which was a surprise. I wanted a monitor that was as least as tall as my 19", but wider.
In my search for new monitors, it was going to be either the Dell or Samsung PX2370. I thought I could live with the U2211Hs (the monitor itself is quite good), but it was not the size I wanted. So I purchased 2-PX2370s from Amazon and returned the Dells.
Now I am happy!
- The PX2370s are the size advertised, and the color and clarity of images are stunning (actually better than the Dells, which are IPS panels).
- The monitors are very light weight and give off virtually no heat (the Dell UltraSharps are not LED lit so they do produce some heat and are heavier).
- The PX2370 does not have the variety of connectors or the monitor height adjustments of the Dell (reason for 4 stars not 5), but so far this has not been a problem. The height of the PX2370 as it sits on your desk is at a normal height. I do think Samsung could put more effort in this aspect of their monitors (they should also have a display port connector).
- I was a little concerned about the wobble I had read about for the PX2370. I thought maybe the monitor might fall over. That is not the case. The reason for the wobble is probably due to how lightweight the monitor is. The base of the monitor is quite sturdy and has little rubber pads on the bottom to keep it from moving around. If you knock your desk, the monitor will do a little wobble, but will not fall over. To me, it is a non-issue (unless I move to an active earth quake zone).
- One other thing. Dell UltraSharps have a tendency for light to bleed through the screen around the edges. This is noticeable when your PC is booting up and the screen is all black. With the U2211Hs, the bleed through was along the top edge and in 2 places very noticeable (one other reason I decided to return them). No such problem with the PX2370s.
As someone who has used a variety of computer monitors and systems, (and works in IT), I can Definitely recommend these monitors. Some might say, "Well, these are TN panels not IPS.", which is true, but from someone who has used both, the color and clarity of these monitors is better than the Dell IPS panels, and in addition, you get that fast response time (good for gamers), that is not seen in IPS panels.
Review by F. Lanier "WhiteRabbit" : Great Multi-Media Display
I purchased the Samsung PX2370 as a secondary external monitor for my laptop, mainly for graphics use. The colors on this screen are ridiculous! While the factory preset for the monitor is way too bright, with a little adjusting this monitor is one of the best looking monitors I have seen. Unfortunately the monitor is NOT wall-mount compatable, although the screens slim design makes up for that. This is a highly recommended buy!
PRO's
---------
Amazing contrast and refresh rate
Very attractive design
Lots of ways to connect devices
CON's
--------
Wobbly monitor stand
NO wall-mount holes
Review by Hamster Army : Very nice monitor
I have put this monitor through some extensive testing with various movie formats and PC games, and it generally passes with flying colors. It does take some time to adjust the desktop and video playback settings, in order to get it the way you want it, but that was the only real complaint I'd have.
When my Acer 24" 241W monitor went dead (it had been going downhill for some time), I wanted a brighter, clearer monitor that offered more vibrant colors and better movie playback in particular. After doing research and reading reviews, I settled on this Samsung 23" slim LED backlit monitor. As others state, blacks are "black" and rarely looked washed out, but that is also dependent on the quality of the media you are viewing. Streaming HD video from Netflix or Hulu looks fantastic, as do regular DVD's, in particular if they fill up the entire screen in 16:9 format instead of letter boxing on the sides (which I cannot stand).
It's important to note that I have a Nvidia 285 GTX 1024MB video card, which is still rather high end at the time of this review, and Directx 11c. I also installed the trial version of PureVideo from Nvidia, and it "seems" to have somewhat dramatically improved video playback, but it's hard to tell if that is from my tweaking or the program's enhancements. In any case, I had the best luck tinkering with the video color and playback settings in the Nvidia control panel, pushing up the sharpness and noise reduction to about 20% and tweaking the brightness and contrast to my liking.
Games simply look great out of the box, colors are bright and vivid, accurate and the 2ms response time serves games well. The monitor's built-in menu is easy enough to navigate and only takes a little practice, but I have let my video card's settings take over for the most part, as noted above.
It was very hard to find an LCD/LED monitor that had across-the-board high reviews, most of them are still lacking with multimedia. This Samsung model is probably the best, and paying an extra $50 for the quality seems to be worthwhile thus far.
The monitor is sleek and attractive looking, lightweight and slim. It was a bit more of a size reduction than I anticipated from my Acer 24", but you get used to it fairly quickly, and is due more to the slim profile of the entire monitor, than the screen size.
As HD video becomes more available and popular online, along with the great enhancements in Windows 7, this monitor stands above most of the others, and is again very much worth the extra $, you get what you pay for, and I've learned that lesson time and time again!
Two thumbs on this model.
Review by Carol : 3 cheers for Amazon's service, too!
I'm very satisfied with this monitor...however, I have a warning about the plug-in cord. I had inadvertently knocked the plug from the transformer in the cord line and didn't realize what had happened. My first reaction was that the monitor had died. I didn't realize my error until a day after I had called Amazon to replace my broken 2 week old monitor and the replacement order was on its way to me. When I discovered my error, I immediately called Amazon to try to intercept the order and even tho it was too late to do that, they treated me so well that I just had to comment on that. They assured me that I should just refuse the order and it would be returned to them with no charge to me. It is so rare to get that kind of customer service and along with a warning to be sure your power cord is fully together tightly in the transformer, I want to thank Amazon for treating me so well!
Review by Scott : Mount Solution
I bought two of these monitors about 6 weeks ago on Amazon. They are, by far, the best monitors I have ever owned. The picture is noticeably better than the Samsung 1080P HD monitor I purchased last year. The LED makes a big difference. The lack of a mounting system on the monitor is a bit of a drawback, but I have found a solution. I found a screw at the hardware store that screws into the hole in the bottom where the base normally goes. I mounted it to a standard tabletop tripod using the screw (instead of the standard tripod screw). You could use this same solution by drilling a small hole in almost any mount or stand and screwing the monitor to it. By the way, I am driving these monitors via USB using this product J-Tech Digital Multi-Display USB 2.0 to DVI/VGA/HDMI FULL HD 1080P Adapter External Video Card Link up to 6 Displays up to 2048x1152. Make sure to update the drivers on DisplayLink, but it works great.
Review by Ken J. Kenar "Maui Knight" : Accurate colors
I have been using a previous LCD monitor for several years and thought that it had accurate colors. However, after getting negative feedback after I printed pictures that I adjusted using photoshop, I realized that the monitor that I was using was lacking in color accuracy. I produce my own advertising using various Adobe products, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and After Effects for my business. Therfore, it is imperative that I work with a monitor with reproduces colors accurately. With this monior does that. Have both monitors side by is one can easily see the difference. Movies (blue-ray) also look great. My website never looked better. The other ads I produce which include commercial printing for magazines and direct mailings are printed as it was originally intended. I did extensive research and numberous tech web sites before I put down that much money for a 23in monitor. I highly recomend the PX2370 monitor.
Review by J. E. Stachowicz "JackS124" : Stunning!
Just received my Samsung PX2370 and had to comment on this monitor. First off - two words: Get it! It is probably the nicest monitor I have seen with an outstanding picture. I currently have an array of monitors by Sony, Samsung, and Apple (a 23" Cinema Display) and this new monitor is far and away superior to any of them.
Pro's:
Thin Screen
Light weight
Elegant design
Outstanding picture
Superior Clarity
True 1080p resolution
LED backlighting
Fast, easy setup
Con's (and they are minor issues for me)
Monitor adjustment buttons are mounted along the back right side of the screen. Just a tad awkward to use, but it does make for a clean design esthetic on the front of the monitor.
No VESA mounting. In fact, the base's column does not appear to be removable. Only the round base plate is removable.
As others have commented, on a shaky or less than sturdy desk the monitor wobbles/teeters on its base. Not a problem for me.
The default brightness is extremely high. You will definitely need to adjust your display settings (took me less than 3 min.) to provide the optimal view.
While this may not be the cheapest 23" monitor, when all is said and done the picture quality will totally win you over. HD videos look amazing on this monitor. The clarity is something to see and with my Mac Mini, the desktop and icons truly have almost a 3D quality to the images. If you're hedging due to the price - don't. It's money well spent.
